The Mahogany School is located in the Mahogany community of Calgary, 1st Class After Class – Mahogany School runs from the school gymnasium and a portable classroom. This 1st Class Location offers a Before and After School Program and Kindergarten program. At 1st Class After Class - Mahogany School, we believe it is our mission to make every child feel happy, safe and free to explore and learn, which we achieve through a programming designed specifically to meet the needs of each child, we provide tons of opportunities to engage in STEM, play, physical activities, literacy, clubs, and more.
Our Kindergarten program offers programming that is designed to complement what they are learning in their classroom while still Playing, Growing, Learning & Having fun with weekly themes based on their interests.
It is a time for story and language development, music and movement activities, and other varied learning experiences.
Our programs all have a pretend and learn area devoted to developing a child’s sense of “make believe”.
Before & After Grade 1-6
Our before and after-care programs go well beyond homework help. We support children in becoming the kindest, most capable, and most resilient version of themselves.
With regular outdoor time and planned indoor activities, our children experience a world of movement, dance and recreation.
Books allow children to enter a world of “make believe” and learn about new and exciting things.
Our programs use a curriculum that is individualized to every age, with planned activities that combine learning and fun to create happy, curious kids.
Seetal has a Child Development Assistant Certification, in Early Childhood Education. Seetal has been a valuable part of 1st Class since September 2018 and as spent his duration at Fish Creek, developing the program. One of Mr. Seetal’s many strengths within the program is staff training, and communication. He is Exceptional at fostering relationships with the children as well as the parents creating a sense community within the program. He found his passion was working with children as an ECE after spending many years in Computer Science/Networking and over 14 years in the Automobile industry.
Mr. Seetal enjoys playing a variety of sports, from dodge ball to hockey. As one of our Physical Sports Director’s he brings this passion and love to the program creating an atmosphere that the children enjoy greatly. He has created numerous opportunities for the children to participate in sporting events and encourages the children to come together as a team through positive interactions and participation. When Mr. Seetal isn’t working, he enjoys spending time in the outdoors, snowmobiling and spending time with his wife, Jessica and family!
Melissa is a Child Development Supervisor with a diploma in Early Childhood Education. She has been in the field for over 18 years. Prior to 1st Class, she was the Assistant Director at her previous centre for over the 10 years. She also participated in 2 of the 4 pilot projects for Flight as well as a 3 year partnership with pedagogical leaders from Flight and the ASaP Program (Access, Support and Participation).
Ms Melissa says "I love watching children grow and learn through their own experiences. To be able to foster a child’s growth and development is an amazing experience to be a part of. I’m grateful for the daily opportunities to be a co-researcher and co-learner with the children". When she is not busy working you can find her hanging out with her two boys and husband, spending time with family and friends, or being crafty!
